My espressos aren’t as creamy as the coffee shops, am I doing something wrong?

Eric T asked:

I was just wondering if anyone knows why something like this would happen. Mine are only a little bit thicker than coffee and that is only because of the crème. I didn’t know if its just the difference in espresso machines or the beans or if it had anything to do with how much pressure I put on the puck.

My espresso machine is - http://www.krupsusa.com/All+Products/Espresso+Machines/Pump+espresso+machines/Products/XP4030/XP4030.htm

I need recommendations for a new espresso machine?

May 25th, 2009

loira74 asked:

When I started drinking espresso, I tried my hand making it at home. Not sure if it would take, I bought the Mr. Coffee ECM20 which was economical, and I must admit it was good when it wasn’t spewing steam out the top or one of the parts wasn’t broken. It’s time for a new machine. (I’ve spent more on replacement parts than I did on the machine.) I’m looking for something that is still economical and fairly easy to maintain. Thanks.

My espresso machine is not pouring evenly?

May 21st, 2009
espresso coffee machines
Beau asked:

I just bought an espresso machine, and in the part where the water pours into the coffee mug, there are two spouts (just in case i want to pour into two different cups). Anyways, one of the spouts starts out pouring but then it starts to drip, whereas the other spout remains a steady stream.

i have made espresso on this thing 5 times so far and its always the same spout that drips, and I have done everything I can to ensure that its packed tightly and distributed evenly when I pack (ie, ‘tamp’) it. The machine comes with a spoon where you use to spoon part to scoop up the ground coffee, and you use the handle of the spoon to pack it in evenly. the handle fits the size of the container that holds the ground coffee so it’s easy to pack it in evenly, or at least so I thought.

Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong? The spout doesn’t appear to have blockage, it also appears to be the same size as the other spout. Thanks for any help,

Quincy

Is espresso supposed to taste burnt?

May 13th, 2009

meggiet asked:

I bought an inexpensive espresso/cappucino maker and every time I make coffee, it smells and tastes burnt. I went exactly by the directions, and used two different kinds of roast (espresso and a medium roast). Is it the coffee beans, the machine or am I doing something wrong? Every cappucino I have ever had never tastes burnt and I really cannot drink what this espresso/cappucino maker has been making.

What espresso machine should I get?

Josh asked:

What’s the best espresso machine i can get for around $100?
I know its not much, but I’m not too picky about coffee; I’ve been doing fine on a steam operated one, but would like a pump operated one

I’ve been looking at these two:

and

Best burr coffee grinder?

May 7th, 2009

culd_ub_loved asked:

I recently purchased a really nice espresso machine, and I was told that regardless of how nice your machine is, a nice grinder is essential to making a good espresso. I know that the Rancilio Rocky is one of the best however, it is a little out of my price range. Can anyone recommend a good coffee grinder under $200?
